A typical half beef has a hanging weight of 300–450 pounds, with the final packaged meat averaging approximately 60% of the hanging weight after processing. A half share typically yields around 125-140 pounds of finished ground beef, though actual amounts may vary slightly from animal to animal.

What is Hanging Weight?

Hanging weight is the weight of the beef carcass after harvest, once the hide, head, and internal organs have been removed. It is the industry standard used for pricing beef shares. Your final take-home meat will typically be about 60% (±) of the hanging weight due to trimming, bone removal, and processing.
